Situated in downtown Los Angeles just blocks away from the city’s fashion district is Mimi G Studios and it’s where I spent the earlier part of this week. The (sewing) mission? Filming a start-to-finish video tutorial for Mimi’s Sew It Academy. Sew It say what? If you haven’t heard of it, well, let me give you the 411. It’s an online sewing school started by Mimi that provides sewing courses such as Intro to Garment Sewing and Intro to Pattern Drafting. It’s subscription based, and at just $11.97 a month, you get access to all the courses in the academy and every month there will be a new course added that will be a continuation of the previous class. Sound like the best $11.97 ever spent? Totes!
Before I get to the deets on the video, let me tell you about my time with Mimi G. Y’all, this lady’s got it going on. I used to have a girl crush on T.Swift, but Mimi’s my new #wcw. A snowstorm almost prevented me from going, but I’m so glad old man winter got me on another plane after mine was cancelled. Mimi is not only a fellow Simplicity licensee, but she’s been on Project Runway Junior and People Espanol, met Tim Gun, taught at conventions such as Sew Pro and even hosts her own annual convention. She spends her days at her super cool DTLA studio with her bae Norris (he sews!) and assistant April. Career goals, sigh…
Okay! So now to the video! Now live on Sew It Academy is a tutorial on how to sew the Madalynne x Simplicity 8228 racerback bralette (view B). In just under an hour, I walk you through each and every step using my PFAFF Passport 2.0 and fabric and trims from Tailor Made Shop.
A huge thank to you Mimi for hosting me! I had such a fun time hanging out with her and her team, as you can see from the photos below.
So hop on over to Sew It Academy to enroll and watch the video. If you don’t have the 8228 pattern, Simplicity is offering a special right now for Sew It Academy students (must be a member in order to take advantage). Use the code SEWIT117 at checkout.
