The Ultimate Black Lingerie Set: Mixing + Matching The Barrett + 8624 Kits

The Ultimate Black Lingerie Set: Mixing + Matching The Barrett + 8624 Kits

DIY black lingerie by Madalynne IntimatesA little lace can go a long way; 2 Madalynne DIY lingerie kits can go a long way too!

I recently moved into my boyfriend’s place and transformed the spare bedroom into a sewing space. A PINK sewing space. I’ve always wanted a damn pink room and now I have one. If you’ve tuned into my Instagram stories, you may have seen the transformation. I’ll be photographing and sharing all the details very soon. In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek. Having this room has done wonders to my workflow, and I’ve been cranking out a lot more sewing. The most recent project was making a Barrett bralette and Madalynne X Simplicity 8624 bra + undie using the Basic Black Barrett Kit and the Madalynne X Simplicity 8624/8436/8229 Lingerie Kit: Black. Part of the reason I made all three is to show that you can mix and match Madalynne kits. I used the lace from the 8624/8436/8229 kit for the back band of the Barrett, and I used the extra black and nude stretch mesh from the Barrett kit and the extra lace from 8624/8436/8229 kit to make an 8624 undie. Dude, that’s the beauty of handmade – you’re in the drivers seat! You get to do/make whatever the hell you want!

BARRETT BRALETTE + 8624 BLACK LINGERIE SET DETAILS

  • I cut a size 34B and shortened the height of the front overlay pattern piece since I’m petite (short torso). Scope out this blog post for common pattern alterations for the 8624.
  • I used a size 80 demi underwire, which you can purchase on my webshop here.
  • I changed the back band of the 8624 to a 3×3 hook and eye. The 8624 kit includes both a 2×3 and 3×3 hook and eye.
  • The scalloped bottom band for the black Barrett is a new addition to the webshop and I’m loving it! It’s 2 3/8″ wide – so it feels more supportive than the 3/4″ wide picot elastic that is in some of the other kits, like this one.

WEARABILITY

I was looking through my lingerie drawer yesterday and I’m proud to say that except for one Wolford underwire bra, which I purchased when I went to Paris and just can’t get rid of for some stupid sentimental reason, everything is Madalynne! Woot woot! I wear my me-made blush pink Barrett as a neutral piece underneath white tops, my me-made yellow rib knit Barrett for a cozy option, and my RTW Macie as a special item… and now these. Comfortable and pretty. Of course, I have more Madalynne undies that I wear, but those of my most often worn. Before taking these photos, which were at the end of the day, I went to a graduation luncheon (Chase just finished her internship) and ran some errands around town. Man o’ man do I love good fitting lingerie. Ya hear me?
