So this week was all sorts of awesome. Doors are closing in my life while others are being opened; people are walking out of my life while others, more amazing ones, are walking in.
For the past two and a half years, I have worked for this stellar company in the technical design/production department. It has been a humbling experience in that I learned from day one that most of what I had learned up until that point was wrong and that I knew little to nothing.
So that’s exactly what I did, forgot about most of it and learned the real ins and outs of the pattern making, sewing, and fashion industry, most of which is not taught in classrooms or textbooks. It is because of what I learned that Madalynne has become what it is today and that my new adventure is starting. As of Monday, I will be the blogger for my company’s new blog. Yes, I, Maddie Flanigan, will be a professional blogger. Paid and all. Legit. They (my company) took notice of my personal blog and asked me to spearhead a new blog for the company. Exciting, nerve-wracking, but most important, rewarded, is how I feel.
There are two more days left in the week and I have lots of exciting things going on. First, the final muslins for my project were sewn and fitted last week, which means the next step is to cut and sew the final garments. The final project will be made of an odd combination of fabric – a vintage yellow tweed (with lurex) for the body and a white cotton eyelet for the interior facings. Most likely, I will add a lace trimming or ruffle here or there mid-sewing. After I finish sewing the final garments, I will scan the pattern, grade it, and sell it to all of you (so excited!). Also this weekend, I will be working on a really cool post about the “correct” relationship between across front, across shoulders, and across back and back/front neck width .
