It was just a few weeks ago that I announced the release of a new bra pattern and kits for the Madalynne X Simplicity 8624, but I'm coming at you with another! As opposed to the 8624, which is a challenging sewing project, the Barrett bralette is more basic. It's an every day pull-on style (no hooks & eyes) that is meant for all sewing levels. You want to know the two best parts about Barrett? One, it's free and two, it can be sewn without a serger. Woo! Pattern Overview: The Barrett is a sporty femme ...

Recap: A Super Sweet Bra Making Workshop
Just a few days after celebrating Valentine's Day - or Galentine's Day for some - I had an awesome time teaching 6 women how to make my newest pattern with Simplicity, the 8624. A high neck, partial band style, this is the most difficult of all my patterns with Simplicity. I was a little nervous that the students wouldn't finish, or if it was too difficult a project to do in 1 day, but every one rocked it! We stayed on track and trooped it through the entire day. The best way to wear the 8624? While eating a slice ...
Finished! How I Wear My 8624 Bra
Now that we've sewn the Madalynne X Simplicity 8624, it's now time to wear it! Before the sew along, I published this post on the inspiration and my style tips. This post is very much a reiteration of that and providing real world application, AKA how I am actually wearing mine. When high neck bra styles became trendy a few seasons ago, they were a bit of a style enigma. How am I supposed to wear a bra that comes up to my collarbone and is clearly visible? Is it only meant for sweatshirts? Just for turtlenecks? ...
Madalynne X Simplicity 8624 Sew Along: Day 3
We're on the home stretch! If you've made it this far, I'm so darn proud of you! We only have a few more steps until we're finished. First order of business for today is to attach the 3/8" picot elastic at the underarm and neckline. First, put your hook and eye about 1/4" in from the center back. Then lay 3/8" picot elastic down so that the picot edge aligns with the top edge of the hook and eye. With a pin or a pen, mark where the two meet. Remove hook and eye - we won't need it until the next steps. Then, with ...

Welcome back to the Madalynne X Simplicity 8624 sew along!! Today, we’re getting to the good part – sewing! If you’re a little behind, click back to day 1 and see what you missed. The first step is to sew the bust darts on the front overlay. With right sides together, pin dart legs. Sew from bottom/wire seam to dart point. Backstitch at beginning, but do not backstitch at dart point. Sew off edge of fabric and tie in a knot at least 3 times. Stitching through lace isn’t easy since you're stitching through pocket ...
