Lighten Your Lingerie
It has been one hot week in Philadelphia. City of Brotherly Love? How about city of sticky love. You know what is equally as bad as melting makeup and frizzy hair? Sweaty lingerie. Yuck. Your and my lacy underthings are supposed to be pretty, and frilly and girly, but in the dog days of summer, it ain’t. What are my tips? In short, my motto from June to August is ‘lighten your lingerie.’
Take a Pause From Padding
I’m not a padded bra type of gal, but if you are, opt for a more breathable bra or bralette with lace cups. True, synthetic fabrics that laces are made of aren’t the most ‘cooling’ fabrics, but the open weave helps when it’s hot. The heavy thick padding is only going to make you hotter and stickier.
Off the Shoulder? Enter: the Strapless Bra
This summer, off the shoulder and cold shoulders are literally everywhere. It’s like Juicy Couture’s track suit or Paris Hilton. Don’t go braless and please don’t resort to chicken cutlets. Get your sewing machines revving and make the Madalynne X Simplicity 8437. I may be partial, but I think it’s pretty damn awesome. Did I mention there’s a kit available? Read more about the construction and and design variations here.
Show It Off
Last, beat the heat by making your lingerie slightly visible. Go ahead, incorporate it into your outfit. In my opinion, bralettes are super cute peeking out of summer tanks or tees. This is exactly the reason my kits have bright pops of colors like burnt orange (here and here). Live colorfully inside and out – that’s a good rule to live by.
Nope! I didn’t forget about the undies. No time, even summer time, is a reason to go commando. Follow the same rule above for your underoos – sheer, light, something cute and something matching.
Happy weekending y’all!
