Monet Merry Widow into a Supporting Longline Bra
Transforming the Monet Merry Widow Corset into a Supporting Longline Bra
The Monet Merry Widow Corset pattern is already a versatile design, blending lingerie and corsetry as well as innerwear and outerwear. But did you know it can also be used to make a supportive longline bra? With a few simple adjustments, actually just one, the Monet pattern offers an opportunity to create a bra that has structure and comfort. Here’s why:
If 80% of a bra’s support comes from the band, the Monet’s longline band is an equation for a supportive bra. The extended band anchors the bra securely, creating a stable foundation. Additionally, you can insert corset boning into the channeling for extra structure. The pattern also includes an underwire, which further increases support, while the foam cups add shape and additional lift, making this design both supportive and comfortable.
Making the Adjustments
Hate pattern alterations? Good news is that this variation is such a breeze. The Monet pattern includes notches, which were added with this variation in mind, that indicate where to cut if you want to create a bra instead of the full corset. These notches are indicated below by the red line.
Additionally, part 1 of the Monet sew-along covers this alteration. Click here to watch the video tutorial walks you step-by-step through the process, making it easy for beginners and experienced sewists alike to follow along.
