True Blue Sewing Guide

True Blue Sewing Guide

This blog post is meant to be a guide to sewing DIY kits from the July collection. Many times, when you make your Madalynne DIY kit, the product listing has been removed because it sold out, or it has been a long time. If the DIY kit is a variation of the original pattern, you may not remember what the variation was or how to do it. Don’t panic. This blog post will briefly outlines and shows pictures of each kit. Please keep in mind that each kit can be used to make many different patterns depending on what fabrics and trims you need. So even though our samples were made a certain way, there may be additional trims included to allow you to make different variations. If you still have questions after reading this blog post, don’t hesitate to email hello@madalynne.com. I will do my best to help you understand how each kit was intended to be made.

Please watch the following tutorial on YouTube to learn how to make this DIY Kit.

Chic, breezy, and beginner-friendly, the Olivet dress + blouse style is a beginner-friendly sewing project that has simple construction and easy-to-follow steps. It is available in sizes XS-5X with a full sew along on Madalynne’s YouTube channel. Whether you’re new to sewing or an experienced maker looking for a quick me-made project, it’s a satisfying and stylish choice with exaggerated puff sleeves, a deep V-neckline in the front and back, and a gathered skirt. For the blouse + short set, we used the short pattern from the Madalynne X Simplicity 3118. The only alteration made for this sample was tapering the overlay to 2″ wide at the shoulder seam.

This super cute set is the Kennedy Sports Bralette and Ross Panty from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie. Obviously, the Kennedy is no longer a sports bralette since it’s made with a stretch galloon lace. Both follow the instructions except the front bralette pieces are overlapped instead of seamed together to allow the galloon edge to show off.
