The April collection is inspired by none other than pop music’s current it-girl, Sabrina Carpenter. It features a brand new color of trims – Mocha Mousse – two new floral prints, embroidered tulle laces, and cute + custom hardware! And that showstopper bra top with ruching, studs, and a bubble hem? That’s the Godiva bodysuit from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie. We gave it a glow-up, and I think it’s my favorite version yet! Wanna make your own? The full sew-along is up on YouTube!

This blog post is meant to be a guide to sewing DIY kits from the collection. Many times, when you make your Madalynne DIY kit, the product listing has been removed because it sold out, or it has been a long time. If the DIY kit is a variation of the original pattern, you may not remember what the variation was or how to do it. Don’t panic. This blog post will briefly outline how each kit is made and any variations. If you still have questions after reading this blog post, don’t hesitate to email hello@madalynne.com. I will do my best to help you understand how each kit was intended to be made.

Let’s kick things off with the star of this collection – the Rey underwire bra and/or the Godiva bodysuit (frame pieces only) from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie! One of the best parts about this DIY kit is its versatility – there are so many ways to sew it, and we made a few versions for the product images.

On the right, you’ll see the Rey underwire bra in its original form – classic and timeless. In the center is a longline version of the Rey bra, created by using the frame pieces from the Godiva bodysuit to give it that extended silhouette. I cover exactly how to achieve this variation in our step-by-step sew along – click here to watch all the sew alongs featured in Sew Lingerie.

And on the left? That’s the stunning (okay, I’m totally biased) Sabrina Carpenter-inspired variation. You’ll find the full sew along for this version below, walking you through every step to recreate the look.

In previous sewing guides, I broke down exactly which fabrics were used and where—but since this DIY includes several variations, listing them all could get a bit overwhelming. Instead, I’ll focus on highlighting the Sabrina Carpenter-inspired version.

All of the bras are paired with the Penelope thong panty – a perfect match if you ask me ;)

Rey Longline Underwire Bra: Oh-em-geeee, one more variation of the underwire bra from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie using the Godiva frame pattern piece to create an angled longline silhouette. It also has exposed underwire channeling and no wide bottom band at the bottom of the bra.

Bra Cups: One layer of non stretch embroidered tulle lace assembled using this tutorial to show off the scallop edge.
Frame: One layer of non stretch embroidered tulle lace lined with on layer of sheer cup lining. The scalloped edge is at the bottom and angled to a point at the center front, which is a stunning decorative effect.
Back Band: One or double layer or stretch mesh or lycra.

  • Since the frame of the bra was lengthened, you will have to adjust the width of the back band so that it fits into the frame and the side seam and finish the bottom edge with fold over elastic before attaching it to the frame.
  • On the inside of the front frame, we sewed strips of channeling at the center front and inserted boning, which provides more support.

In the sew along, it explains how to create the shape of the back band piece.

Millie Panty: You could use several Madalynne patterns for the matching thong. The panty in the photos is the Millie, but the Tonika, Buffy or Odessa could be used.

Front Panty: One layer of lycra with embroidered lace tulle along the top edge.
Back Panty: One layer of stretch mesh or power net.

I love the Brooklyn Bralette and Barker Panty from Sew Lingerie (middle and right image) as well as the Odessa Corset Bra Top (left image). They’re cute and everyday. The DIY kits for this style follow with the instructions outlined in the book, with one variation: the panty. In the book, the leg openings and waistline are finished with picot elastic, but the kit for this collection uses fold over elastic for the leg openings and wide band elastic for the waist. To achieve these finishes, you can apply the sewing techniques described for the Brooklyn pattern to the Barker. The Odessa is sewn as per the instructions, however, we used different lace placement.
