Botanicals in Wonderland Sewing Guide

Botanicals in Wonderland Sewing Guide

This blog post is meant to be a guide to sewing DIY kits from the collection. Many times, when you make your Madalynne DIY kit, the product listing has been removed because it sold out, or it has been a long time. If the DIY kit is a variation of the original pattern, you may not remember what the variation was or how to do it. Don’t panic. This blog post will briefly outline how each kit is made and any variations. If you still have questions after reading this blog post, don’t hesitate to email hello@madalynne.com. I will do my best to help you understand how each kit was intended to be made.

Let’s kick things off with the star of this collection – the Rey underwire bra and/or the Godiva bodysuit (frame pieces only) from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie! One of the best parts about this DIY kit is its versatility – there are so many ways to sew it, and we made a few versions for the product images.

On the right, you’ll see the Rey underwire bra longline version of the Rey bra, created by using the frame pieces from the Godiva bodysuit to give it that extended silhouette. I cover exactly how to achieve this variation in our step-by-step sew along – click here to watch all the sew alongs featured in Sew Lingerie. In the center, you’ll see the Godiva bodysuit. And on the left? That’s the stunning (okay, I’m totally biased) Sabrina Carpenter-inspired variation. You’ll find the full sew along for this version below, walking you through every step to recreate the look.

In previous sewing guides, I broke down exactly which fabrics were used and where—but since this DIY includes several variations, listing them all could get a bit overwhelming. Instead, I’ll focus on highlighting the Sabrina Carpenter-inspired version.

All of the bras are paired with the Tonika thong – a perfect match if you ask me ;)

Isn’t this lace stunning? This style is the Rey underwire bra longline version of the Rey bra, created by using the frame pieces from the Godiva bodysuit to give it that extended silhouette. The bra is paired with the Tonika thong panty.

Bra Cups: One layer of non stretch embroidered tulle lace assembled using this tutorial to show off the scallop edge.
Frame: One layer of non stretch embroidered tulle lace lined with on layer of sheer cup lining. The scalloped edge is at the bottom, which is a stunning decorative effect.
Back Band: One or double layer or black stretch mesh.

  • Since the frame of the bra was lengthened, you will have to adjust the width of the back band so that it fits into the frame and the side seam and finish the bottom edge with fold over elastic before attaching it to the frame.

*Watch sew along for the Godiva and the Rey on YouTube.
In the sew along, it explains how to create the shape of the back band piece.

Tonika Panty: You could use several Madalynne patterns for the matching thong. The panty in the photos is the Tonika, but the Buffy or Odessa could be used.

Front Panty: One layer of all over embroidered lace with the scallop edge along the waistline. We had to piece the laces together to fit the length of the panty.
Back Panty: One layer of stretch mesh.

This is the Annabelle/Annette waspie is stunning! This sample was sewn as per the instructions of the Annette but with without the front busk. You can watch this tutorial to see how the lace appliqués were applied. The studs were the last addition and added by hand.

A quick and easy sewing project, this Tonika kit has no variations.
