Dusty Rose Sewing Guide
Madalynne’s Dusty Rose collection is here! Forget the PSL— this assortment of DIY kits, ready made sets, fabrics, elastics and trims is the real reason to get excited about fall! As the season changes, it’s getting a little darker, but still keeping color that you and I love about Madalynne!
This blog post is meant to be a guide to sewing DIY kits from the collection. Many times, when you make your Madalynne DIY kit, the product listing has been removed because it sold out, or it has been a long time. If the DIY kit is a variation of the original pattern, you may not remember what the variation was or how to do it. Don’t panic. This blog post will briefly outline how each kit is made and any variations. If you still have questions after reading this blog post, don’t hesitate to email hello@madalynne.com. I will do my best to help you understand how each kit was intended to be made.
Just like the July collection, Penelope is the star again! There is no variation and everything received in the kit is meant to be sewn according to the pattern instructions. Please note that this DIY kit was only for the teddy. There is not enough scallop lace in the DIY kits to the lace overlay on the bodysuit.

Rey Longline Underwire Bra: This is a variation of the underwire bra from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie, that uses the Godiva frame pattern to create a longline silhouette. It also exposed underwire channeling and the addition of a underwire channeling at the center front for a design effect. There is no wide bottom band at the bottom of the bra.
Top Bra Cup: One layer of non stretch galloon lace. Cut out and sewn as per instructions.
Lower Bra Cups: One layer of non stretch galloon lace and one layer of sheer cup lining. Cut out and sewn as per instructions.
*Please note that these DIY kits only came with 1 yard non stretch lace, so there is no lace overlay on the frame or panty.
Frame: One layer of printed and one layer of sheer cup lining.
Back Band: One layer of printed mesh lined with one layer of stretch mesh.
*Watch sew along for the Godiva and the Rey on YouTube.
*Since the frame of the bra was lengthened, you will have to adjust the width of the back band so that it fits into the frame and the side seam.
Millie Panty: You could use several Madalynne patterns for the matching thong. The panty in the photos is the Millie, but the Tonika, Buffy or Odessa could be used.
Front + Back Panty: One layer printed mesh lined with one layer of stretch mesh.
*Waistline is finished with wide waistband
Madalynne X Simplicity 9833: This is a variation of Madalynne’s monowire bra with Simplicity that has a scalloped edge on the bottom of the frame and is clean-finished edges on the poly laminate cups.
Bra Cups: One layer of non stretch galloon lace. Cut out and sewn as per instructions.
Frame: One layer of non stretch galloon lace and one layer of sheer cup lining. The galloon edge is on the bottom edge. We did not finish the bottom edge with picot elastic on the inside, but you could. If you do this finish, you would sew with picot elastic flat on the wrong side before attaching to the back band
Quarter Cups: One layer poly laminate foam and 2 layers of stretch mesh (for the overlay). Normally, the top edge of the quarter cups are finished with fold over elastic. We clean finished them by adding ¼” to the top edge of the overlays. We sewed the overlays to the wrong side of the poly laminate foam and then flipped it to the right side.
Back Band: For a design effect (AKA to show off this gorgeous silver lace), use non stretch galloon lace, which restricted the stretch a lot. I suggest using stretch mesh if you want a more comfortable fit.
Panty: Sewn exactly as per the instructions.

Back Band: One layer of lycra and one layer of power net.
*Watch sew along for the Rey on YouTube.
*Since there is no wide elastic band at the bottom of the bra, you will have to adjust the width of the back band at the center back so that it fits into the hook + eye.
Millie Panty: You could use several Madalynne patterns for the matching thong. The panty in the photos is the Millie, but the Tonika, Buffy or Odessa could be used.
Front + Back Panty: One layer of textured lycra lined with one layer of power net.
Rey Underwire Bra: This is a variation of the underwire bra from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie, that has fold over elastic as the underwire casing and no wide band elastic at the bottom.
