My Favorite Madalynne X Simplicity Ladies: April

bra pattern‘Scuse me while I get a little korny here, but seeing all of the variations and iterations of the Madalynne X Simplicity 8228 and 8229 is an incredible feeling. Get out your cell phones- like righ now. yes, I mean this second! – and search the hashtag #bramakingwithmadalynne. Lurk all the lacy photos like it’s images of candied bacon. Delish, eh? Lurk, lurk and lurk some more is what I do many mornings as I warm up on the elliptical before taking a jog. There are over 1,000 photos – I’m blushing – and below are just some of the most recent ones that I <3 plus my ‘Maddie notes.’

Be sure to keep uploading photos to IG of your 8228 and 8229 and tag @mmadalynne and @simplicity_creative_group and use the hashtags #bramakingwithmadalynne and #simplicitypatterns. I’m hoping to make today’s feature a regular occurrence like my morning cardio sesh.

TANY

“I started sewing my own lingerie a few months ago and Simplicity 8229 was among the first bra patterns that I’ve tried. I love the fit and comfort of this wired bra and how easy it is to put together; it really made me fall in love with bra making!”

Read more about her 8229 on her blog!

She made another 8229 using the most divine red lace. Ow ow! Get all the deets here.

 ANN

“This pattern is not only gorgeous & totally comfortable, but also a great introduction to bra-making and working with lingerie elastics, stretch laces, and powernet.  Between the pattern instructions & the tutorials on Maddie’s blog (like how to clean finish the seams), I was able to sew my first bralette! I’m super pleased with how it turned out and I can’t wait to sew my next bra!”

Maddie’s note: Can never go wrong with a white bralette! NEVER

YASMEEN

“I am very much a beginner when it comes to bra making and was really excited when I saw Maddie had teamed up with Simplicity to bring out two new bra patterns. I started with the halter neck 8228 and loved my first plum stretch lace one so much I quickly made a second using some very special bronze/ brown lace I brought back from my honeymoon to Japan.”

Maddie note: Girl’s got talent! My first bra totes didn’t look this good.

RACHEL

“This was a really quick project (about 2 hours to trace the pattern, cut, and sew). As a lingerie aficionado and designer myself, I’m very happy with the cut of this bra. It’s much more modern than most of the patterns I’ve seen out there and is reminiscent of Stella McCartney bras that I adore. I usually buy 32B bras but according to the size chart I cut a 32A. Overall it fits well but I’m embarrassed to admit it that I was in too much of a hurry to thoroughly read the directions so I ended up using the “cup lining fabric” as lining in the band and it’s a little too tight because of that. I also didn’t use enough tension at the underarm edge and so the elastic is a bit wavy. On the interior, I used some peach elastic but left my bobbin thread black–big mistake! It would have looked so much better if I just took the 35 seconds to find a peach bobbin! I was really happy with the bra kit from TailorMade Shoppe. There was plenty of lace to make a second bra or panty plus not having to source all the individual findings was a huge relief. Not to mention, the lace was really nice quality and the hardware was rose gold! Yay!
