Introducing Eloise, a Bralette + Panty PDF Pattern

The Barrett Bralette has surpassed all my expectations. It’s surprising to me because as a designer, it’s my personality to create new and unique items. Let’s be real – the Barrett is as basic as it gets. Like the basic bitch of bras. Sure, the cutout adds a nice touch, and the fabrics in the DIY kits elevate it to a super fun bralette, but there ain’t anything special about it. Here’s the thing though –  IT FITS. EVERYONE. A petite woman with a full bust of 30.5” to a plus size woman with a full bust of 48” and every woman in between. The New York Times Fashion mentioned it this August for being size inclusive. The New York Times Fashion people!

The Eloise is an elevated basic. The fit of the bralette is based on the Barrett – why change it – and the asymmetrical lace overlay on the front makes is *unique*. The strap detailing on the panty, a high waisted cheeky style, matches the strap detailing on the bralette. The Eloise is even more size inclusive than the Barrett – the bralette is available in sizes XXS-3XL and the panty is available in sizes XS-3XL. I know what you plus size or full cup/small ribcage gals are thinking – those teeny straps won’t work for me. Girl, I got you! The XL, 2XL and 3XL kits come with wider straps as well as firmer power net lining. 

The Eloise was a design collaboration between Madalynne Intimates and Kaki Intimates, another Philadelphia based lingerie and loungewear designer. Although we didn’t know each other at the time, we worked together at Anthropologie. We met at a trunk show in April at Expect Lace. Working from inspiration from both of our brands, we teamed up to produce a PDF sewing pattern and ready-to-ship collection (hand crafted in New York!). So if you want to sew the Eloise, you can, but if you want to purchase the  ready-to-ship Eloise, you can do that too!

PATTERN DETAILS:

Eloise is a modern, femme pull-on bralette and panty with asymmetrical lace and strap detailing. Bralette (View A) has princess seams, which provide shaping and volume, and has a wide elastic at the bottom, which gives additional support. Bralette also has adjustable shoulder straps and is finished with picot plush bra making elastics throughout. 

Panty (View B) is a high rise, cheeky style with matching assymetrical lace and strap detailing.

PATTERN TESTERS:

A huge thank you to my pattern testers who corrected my typos (assymmetrical versus asymmetrical ), suggested clearer sewing instructions and provided feedback on their experience. I learned a lot from them, so I wanted to share their experience sewing the Eloise, especially Brynn since she shares her pattern back for a size 30G. These are photos straight from their sewing rooms after their first try at sewing the Eloise!

ANGELA:

First I have to say the set looks absolutely stunning!  The pictures just don’t do it justice.  I made using lace, fabric, wide elastic and mesh from your website which are perfect. 

I made the panty first.  My hips are 35” and my waist is 28” so I made small as I always go for the hip size.  This fits me perfectly. The bottom strap I placed along the edge and fitted the middle strap in between.  However, the strap lengths needed to be longer which is maybe because I have a larger waist than a small.  If you are making for yourself I would suggest trying on to check how this looks especially as strap elastic is so different and we all have different body shapes.  At this length the elastic stays in place and does not cut into my body (I am very fussy about this on strappy garments)

My bust is 36” and this would put me at the top end of large.  Comparing this to my Barrett which is also a large it did look big.  So I made a mesh mock up and was indeed to big all around.  So I made up the medium.  However, I redrafted the top edge of the medium to keep the height of the large at the princess seam as I thought the medium looked a little short for my body shape.  Then I also added 1/8” as I was using 3/8” picot elastic and I find it easier to be able to apply to the edge evenly.  I also adjusted the back band to match the front adjustments.  For me this was a perfect fit at the front.  It still could be a little tighter around the rib cage but with the wide band elastic this is not a problem and is so comfortable.

BRYNN:

My measurements are: Ribcage: 28″, Bust: 36/37″

In traditional bras I wear a 30G usually, but I almost exclusively wear sports bras and bralettes these days.

The coverage is great! Believe me when I was sewing I was thinking no way this was going to cover everything, but lo and behold I popped it on after getting the straps on and it was perfect! Also, it is very comfortable. I have been wearing it all day.

For this one I did the same alterations to the Barrett, since this one is based on Barrett and I wanted to be able to compare them.  I cut an XL front and a S back.  You can really tell the difference in the band to bust ratio. The band is just right in this version, and the cup area fits really well. In comparison to my barette, which I did a s/xl as well, the cup area is much more restricting.

This came together very quickly. I made this one in two hours almost exactly. I found the instructions to be quite clear.

I really enjoyed sewing the Eloise bralette and panties; these patterns are just begging to be made together as a matching set! The design is unlike anything that we have in the sewing world right now and reminds me of some of my favorite luxury lingerie brands. It did require some precision sewing, but the instructions were clearly described, and with a bit of focus, I came out with a set that I was really proud of. As I’ve sewn Madalynne patterns before, I knew what to expect from the fit and it only took a few quick alterations to the pattern to get the perfect fit for me (reducing the cup volume). I definitely NEED a black lace version of this though, so that’s added to my list of things to sew!
