Traveling With Your Lingerie: My Tips & What’s In My Bag

Traveling With Your Lingerie: My Tips & What’s In My Bag

With summer approaching – wait! with summer here! – there’s a lot of traveling going in my and possible your world. It’s a busy few months for me with trips to California, Iowa, New York and Florida to promote my new patterns with Simplicity as well as the launch of my made-in-the-USA RTW lingerie (more deets on that coming!). The first trip is happening this weekend. I’m teaching at Mimi G’s Annual Sewing Conference in Los Angeles with the likes of Kenneth King, Deborah Kreiling and Joy MacDonell. Sewing royalty y’all.

As much thought and planning as I put into my outfits, I put that much into my lingerie. You probably could have guessed that. I’m a less is more type of gal and follow the rules of keep it simple and edit, edit, edit. I don’t want to be hauling a heavy bag through the airport. Even thought it’s a good arm workout, it puts a damper on traveling. My goal when packing is to get the most miles as I can out of my outfits, even if that means wearing them multiple times. That doesn’t mean I can only pack basics. No, no, no peeps. Let’s just take a peek at what is in my bag for this weekend.

I just finished sewing this (and filming a tutorial – stay tuned!) and I’m in love! The print is so fun.

For a mock turtleneck dress that I bought last summer at Anthropologie, I’ll be wearing the Madalynne X Simplicity 8228 View A underneath. The bralette is as colorful as the dress. I made it using fabric and trims from one of my kits, which I just restocked but with burnt orange trimming rather than blush pink. Amazing color combo, if I may say so myself ; )

lingerie traveling tipsDo you have an item in your closet that never gets old? The cream midi dress below is that. It’s a vintage dress I got from an online shop, Dalena, a few years ago, and I’ve worn it everywhere. On hot summer days, during the winter, out on dates, to happy hour, just hanging. It’ll be making an appearance this weekend as well as the Madalynne X Simplicity 8228 View B made using the same kit as view A above.

I’ll be in Cali through the following week and will definitely need to wash my undies. When traveling, I separate my lingerie from the rest of what I pack. This makes it easy to find, less likely to lose and ensures the lace won’t snag on another piece of clothing or a zipper. Bonus is that I can throw the entire bag in the sink at a hotel/AirBnB or when I get home.

Alrighty, I’m off to Cali. Currently delayed at the PHL Airport though. Ugh Spirit Airlines…
