Introducing the Lawren Bodysuit Sewing Pattern

At the beginning of the pandemic, I needed a creative project. Philadelphia was on full lockdown and the only place I was going was my house, the studio, and the grocery store once a week. Yes, I have a creative “job”, but I needed a personal project that would be fulfilling, easy and boost my mood, and distract me from what was going on in the world. I whipped up this Madalynne X Simplicity 8435 using fabric from the webshop. When I wore it, I kept being asked, “Did you make that?“, “What is the pattern?“, “Can you put together a kit?” Even though the pattern is discontinued and the bodysuit I made didn’t follow the instructions, it was clear that you LOVED bodysuits. I made a mental note – the next pattern MUST be a bodysuit.

OVERVIEW + INSPIRATION

The hardest parts about fitting a bodysuit are torso length and different bodice and hip sizes. Some people have a short torso, so bodysuits tend to be too long. On the flip side, some people have a long torso, so bodysuits tend to be too short. Also, some people could measure a 2XL in the bodice, but measure a medium in the waist/hip. I wanted to offer a bodysuit that would have a waist seam that would allow for easy adjustments if needed. The waist seam also offers the ability to split the bodysuit into a crop top and panty.

The bodysuit pictured above on the right is a RTW style that I found online and served as a base pattern. Just like I usually do when creating a pattern, I bought two, took one apart, and drafted a pattern with the changes that I wanted.

The Lawren Bodysuit View A is an ultra femme, form-fitting, semi-sheer lace bodysuit with cap sleeves, princess seams and a waist seam to accommodate difference bust sizes and torso lengths. View A also has a gusset with a snap closure.

The Lawren Bodysuit View B is the same as View A, but has no snap closure at the gusset.

SIZING

The Lawren bodysuit is available in sizes XS -4XL and cup sizes A-B, C-D, DD-F, and G-H for each alpha size. The bodice is based off of the Barrett bralette and the panty is based off of the Noelle panty. It is extremely important to me to offer consistent sizing across patterns and both of these styles are tried-and-true patterns for you.
