Placket <3 I My Favorite Button Ups
Not all plackets are created equally. Which side goes on top of the other? Male and female snaps? There was even an entire article on ‘The Curious Case of Men and Women’s Buttons’, which according to the write up, “the button differential is a relic of an old tradition that we have ported into the contemporary world.” I’ll keep my mouth shut on this tradition and say, I lurve plackets. On a henley is my ultimate fav. Similar to a collar, it shapes and frames the face. I have such affection and affinity for them that I made it top priority to post an entire tutorial on how to make the placket for the 8435. The tut for how to sew the snap crotch is still in the queue. Priorities peeps. I have to be in the mood to be able to write ‘crotch’ 10+ times in one day. Some larger chested women voice that they don’t wear button up of any kind because their shirts split open. While I can’t speak from personal experience, I can say according to Refinery29, there are tops made just for this… just for you. Striped henleys with a placket with the stripes in the opposite direction is like dark chocolate. Indulgent. The perfect amount of quirkiness on a classic, am I right? I have a major girl crush on Mimi G, and I’m craving to make her most recent batwing dress. Because 3 pattern pieces only and… plackets!
Just some rambling on a button up addict on a regular ole weekday. Want more? Check out Penny, that fabulous red and blush Madalynne X Simplicity 8435 I made over the summer and my new fav fall layering piece, a crème de la crème version of the same pattern. While you’re at it, why not swoop up a pattern and kit and whip up your own?
