Must See: The Fabric Store Los Angeles

Located at 136 South La Brea Avenue (they also have stores in New Zealand and Australia), The Fabric Store is a mecca for go-to for designer fabrics and New Zealand merino jersey. Their fabric range is diverse, and they stock high quality cotton basics (including Liberty of London), linens, woollens, printed silks, sequins, leathers and more for both garment and home sewing. The prices are on par with other stores – not cheap, but not expensive. You get what you pay for; the quality here is excellent.  In terms of lingerie fabric, they had a few stretch and non stretch laces. No linings (i.e. 15 denier tricot) or trimmings (picot plush elastic). Where I hit the jackpot was their knits (see picture below with red and blush pink striped fabric). Y’all, they have an incredible assortment of jerseys, waffle knits, rib knits which I swooped up and intend on making many Madalynne X Simplicity 8435 bodysuits.
Can’t make it to the store? No prob bob. They have an online shop, but also offer free samples. Shoot the store an email and explain your project. Their staff will curate a sample selection and pop it in the post for you. Speaking of the staff, they were extremely nice and beyond helpful. When I told them I made lingerie, they took an immediate interest and did their best to suggest fabrics. It is all around a lovely store with a cool vibe that I will send all my friends who are headed to and live in LA.

(FYI-Â I heard parking can be tricky – watch out for La Brea’s rush hour rules and street cleaning. The Fabric Stores does however have a few spots in the back accessible via the alley. Otherwise, circle the area a couple times and something is bound to open up)
